The under 14s have enjoyed a very successful season which has cumulated in them winning their South West age group league and reaching the last four, the National Finals, of the ECB County Cup competition.  Earlier in the season they were runners up to a very strong Yorkshire side in their ESCA King’s Taunton under 14s Festival. Maturely captained by Exeter’s Marcus Hoddinott, Exeter, who has regularly scored runs, they have played 13 matches, won 10, drawn 1 and lost 2 and inconsequence they will play in Division 1 West in 2012. Jonathan Mears manager/coach said “The team have played really well together. When one or two players have had an off day others have stepped up and performed. They have learnt to win tight games, play with no fear, which is the sign of a good team, a team enjoying themselves and each others’ company. It is just reward for all their hard work over the last few years under Jim Parker and Julian Wyatt and this year Adam Parker and I.” There have also been significant contributions from Heathcoat’s wicket keeper/batsman Jack Maunder, Sidmouth’s trio Dom Bess, Dan Powell and Henry Gater, Stoke Gabriel’s Sebastian Ansley and Bovey Tracey’s Jack Thomas whilst Cornwood’s Matt Skeemer has had a very fine all round season with bat and ball, scoring 72 against Wales. Exmouth’s Ollie Dawe and Bovey Tracey’s Jack Thomas have opened the bowling, unluckily at times and have been well supported by Plympton’s Todd Rossouw, Bovey Tracey’s Ben Roberts and Filleigh’s Jack Brazier who has chipped in with the odd important wicket. North Devon’s Barnaby Meadowcroft, Shobrooke Park’s Kieran Vinnicombe and Cornwood’s Reece Boase have all played too, with Meadowcroft helping Bess knock off the winning runs against Dorset to win their group. The side are coached by Barton’s and recent Devon Lion’s captain Adam Parker who has come up through the Youth system and played for the under 14s under Mears in 2000.

Lancashire, Norfolk and Staffordshire are believed to make up the other three finalists- three minor counties in thr Finals!
